Used iPhone X, XS, XS Max and XR: how to get ahead with the best-selling smartphones.
In many countries, iPhone X and older models have become the best-selling phones in Q4 2018 and Q1 2019. In the US, Apple holds a leading position, with the 5 iPhones in the top-10. Read how to get ahead with used iPhone X, XS, XS Max, XR.
The popularity of the latest iPhone generation
The iOS 12th-generation devices (iPhone XS, XS Max and XR) became the best-selling smartphones in several big European countries in the 4th quarter of 2018. The iPhone XR, in particular, remained the best-selling phone in the UK and Germany (the two biggest markets in Europe) in Q1 2019.
In the US, Apple holds a leading position, with the 5 iPhones in the top-10. And iPhone XR has become the best-selling smartphone model. It accounts for more than 1 in every 10 smartphones sold.
The sales of those devices were mainly driven by consumers replaced their older iPhones. According to Kantar Worldpanel figures, 16 per cent iPhone XS and XS Mas buyers upgraded from an iPhone X.
This situation, in turn, leads to an increase in the amount of the latest iPhone models in the secondary market. Brand new features complicate the process of diagnosing those smartphones. For instance, damaged FaceID unit is beyond repair. It is significantly reducing the trade-in value of iPhone X, XS, XS Max or XR.
FaceID and TrueDepth camera working principles description
The FaceID feature is the result of sophisticated software data processing from the front camera and a new type of sensor called the TrueDepth camera. This camera is an infrared and determines the distance to the objects that are illuminated with an infrared emitter (dot projector) installed next to a conventional camera (front camera) in the top line of the iPhone.
In order to test the FaceID function, it is necessary to have a TrueDepth camera in good condition. A new mobile application can access it and display approximate data. Due to the fact that it is impossible to replace this new assembly without losing the FaceID function, the need for checking is required.
A separate item highlighted is the test of the IR camera. It visualizes the data that the camera receives. It is worth noting that the data that visualizes our application is an approximate picture from the camera.
Dual camera module
The dual camera module in iPhone 7+, 8+, X, XS, XS Max, adds only one function — the portrait shooting. In other operations, the second camera is not used. When this shooting mode is on the image displayed on the screen comes from the second camera. If the camera is not functioning correctly when the portrait shooting is turned on, the camera error may occur or image processing will not work correctly.
